News from Tel Aviv University

Israelis are proud of their excellent universities, with very good reason. High-tech Israel has an excellent international reputation and has made very significant contributions to modern science and engineering. As you’d expect from a country with such a rich landscape of important sites, Israeli universities also tend to have very strong presence in the field of archaeology.

Perhaps less obvious is Tel Aviv University’s commitment to furthering stem cell research. The aim is to either cure or develop effective treatments for serious illnesses such as multiple sclerosis. Other researchers are looking into ways to clean up oil spills, reduce the size of cancerous tumours, scan archaeological finds without damaging them, and a whole lot more.

It’s not just about research either. Tel Aviv University (or TAU, as it is sometimes known) has a proven teaching record, with former alumni including a past president of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers or IEEE, and a diverse collection of professors currently serving at universities around the world. TAU’s maths students achieved a rank of 4th in the world after the last International Mathematical Competition.

In addition to the normal commitment to educate students from across Israel, TAU is host to a variety of programs welcoming international students. While the university’s strongest international links are with countries like the USA, France, and Mexico, English language courses are open to students and graduate students from other countries as well.
